The Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant held the rights to send the Philippines representatives to Miss Universe pageant from 1964 to 2019. Pia ended up as first runner up and the pageant was won by Ariella Arida. Pia did not lose hope and entered the Binibining Pilipinas pageant the following year (2014) and ended up as one of the semi-finalists, winning a lower placement than her previous placement as first runner-up. This incident was not strong enough to break the confidence and determination of this very strong-willed woman. She again entered Binibining Pilipinas contest in the year 2015. A lot of people were happy with her return as many believed that she would make a great representative to the Miss Universe pageant. Finally, it was the 15 th of March, 2015 when all her hard work, patience, dedication and determination paid off. She was elected the winner of Binibining Pilipinas 2015. Along with that she also won the rights to represent the Philippines at Miss Universe 2015.
Pia was a major front runner and crowd favorite candidate to win Miss Universe 2015 title. She performed outstandingly well in all the segments of the pageant and on December 20, 2015, she was proclaimed the most beautiful woman in the world, or the universe rather. Her victory made headlines all across the globe and she received a colossal and gigantic homecoming in the Philippines. It is also believed that her homecoming event was the biggest and most extravagant homecoming ever received by any international beauty pageant winner in the history.
Her victory and popularity brought the Miss Universe pageant back to the Philippines after 23 years. She passed on her crown to Iris Mittenaere from France. Later, Pia became an international celebrity and judged various national as well international beauty pageants.
